Meet Henry S. Twiggs, aka “Blackhawk”
I met Henry in Dothan, Alabama. Talking to him, I discovered that he had 43 accident free years driving. That caught my attention. Further into the conversation, I learned that Henry is the president of Five S Creations, a production, promotion, and talent agency in Alabama that also produces a series of safety stickers for semi-trailers..
Henry had written an autobiographical story published in the May/June of ‘08 issue of RoadKing Magazine. It begins with his first trucking experience in 1948 with his grandfather, then goes on to casually mention his introduction to Jimmy Hoffa, and throws in his being the first person of color to drive a car hauler out of Michigan. Henry has also published a book on driving safety.
He and his wife were left homeless after Hurricane Katrina, and have relocated to Dothan.
Faith is something that has played an important role throughout Henry’s life.
p.s.- Henry also hopes to someday own and drive a Cascadia, as he was very impressed with mine.
Good Luck Henry!
-Dick

Wow, was I surprised when I got home and clicked onto your e-mail. I made a trip up to Aston, Pa. and picked up a load back to Orlando, Fl. During the trip I thought about our conversation and how the Lord work in mysterious ways. I ended up spending my birthday on the road where I received a ticket for traveling in Maryland on route US 1 with a 53 foot trailer and I also left my cell phone i a resturant. I refused to let any of what I thought was a dissappointing birthday get to me. I made up my mind that God is always in control and I must follow his will and not let the things of this world get to me. On the way south on highway 81 in Virginia, I saw on of the worst truck accident I’ve seen in quite awhile. Two eighteen wheelers on the north bound side had collided and the road had to be shut down. One of the trucks was upside down off the road and the a reefer with a load of fruit had burnt up in the center lane of traffic. I would love to know what caused such an accident. Well, I made it hoe safely and I’m preparing to return to the road tommorrow. Thanks for taking the time to speak with me and for telling a portion of my story. Let’s pray that this administratlion will recognize fthe situation in the trucking industry and assist us in making this an industry which a person could make a decent living and be paid properly for the work we perform delivering goods throughout America.
