Loading in San Antonio, Texas

Monday, October 26, 2009

Hi folks! After leaving Willie’s Place, my next load comes out of San Antonio, TX, I will be loaded this afternoon. I will be loaded a little heavy but I am not in a hurry so my M. P. G. should stay around 7.2-7.4 at a slower rate of speed I get a hole lot better M. P. G. and that helps out the net income and thats what its all about. The DD15 is doing a great job, I am happy with what the DD15 is doing its keeping me in business. Smile, be happy, untill next time be safe.

Convoy For A Cure Is Over For 2009

Sunday, October 25, 2009

Hi folks! Well, the Convoy is over for 2009. There were over 30 trucks in the Convoy. We started rolling out about 11 am from Carl’s Corner (Willie’s Place.) I think we drove about 12 or 15 miles in the Convoy. Most of the trucks were all shined up; a sight to see. Drivers came from all over the state of Hawaii, Florida, Minnesota, Indiana, Ohio, Kansas, and Texas. The entertainment was great with, Leland Martin, Kathy White, Howard Salmon, and I met Jim Hubbard from Fort Walton Beach Florida a very good voice. And Jon Osburn was doing health screenings. A clown was doing her thing, and OOIDA was there doing interviews and pictures. The Cascadia was there bright and shining, and I got lots of comments on how nice the Cascadia looks. And I would say thank you to the two more in the program now, but enter the contest and you might be the lucky winner of a Cascadia for a year. And the employees of Willie’s Place were just super. It was a long day for Cindy Stowe but she made it through it ok and looking forward to next year. Untill next time be safe.

P/S There were lady drivers from Canada there also, remember to pretrip your bodies like you pretrip your trucks.

The Florida Turn Pike Summer Of 2001

Monday, October 19, 2009

Hello everyone
I delivered in Tampa Fl. today comming north on I 75 near Wildwood I was remembering the summer of 2001.I was on the Florida turn pike, and had just paid my last toll north bound. A white B.M.W. went by me at a good rate of speed. It had been raining the road was still wet the B.M.W. hit a pool of water and went off the road all I saw was steam comming from the side of the road. I looked around no one in sight so I went as fast as I could to get there. I found a lady and a little girl in the car it was on its top,I seldom carry a knife but I had been unloading blanket wrap and I had been cutting tape.So I took my gerber knife and cut the seat belts that held the child in.By this time more people had stopped, I was in a pool of water and the car was starting to fill up with water.I looked up saw a women standing on the side, I yelled come and get this baby so I can get this lady out of this car.I guess she was scared I met her half way. The lady in the car must have been in shock I told her hold your breath you are going under water for a second so I cut the belt carried her to dry land laid her down by the baby went to the truck got some furniture pads and laid them on the pads,I never new there names I know they would be ok .So I got back to the truck put on dry clothes and went on my way. Till next time,Be safe.

Tampa Convention Center

Sunday, October 18, 2009

Hi folks
Delivering trade shows sometimes isnt to easy, finding the marshalling yard is the hardest part because nobody seems to know where it is.If you call the convevtion center, they dont know so you have to report to the center. They tell you ,you have to go to the yard sure I will can , you give directions. After you get to the yard turn in your paper work it gets a little easier. After you get unloaded you go back to the marshalling yard and get your paper work. It makes for a long day,but that is part of it Till next time be safe.

Saturday morning started out wet, and very cool. We thought the day was going to be a rain out. After a few cups of coffee, the rain stopped, and people started showing up.

It turned out to be a really good day. We were entertained by Joey Holiday and his entourage and two terrific motorcycle performers.

The ladies who sang with Joey were wonderful also. They knew some truck driving songs, and how to keep a crowd involved.

I lost count of all the drivers I saw checking out the Cascadia.

I’ve never entered a truck in a truck show, and that wasn’t initially the reason I was there. I was originally there to show off the Cascadia and let other drivers get a feel for it. At around 1:00, my arm was twisted into entering the Cascadia into the show. Since it was the only Cascadia there, and there were so many people stopping to stare, I thought, “What the heck? Why not?”

So Saturday morning, when they started handing out the prizes, the first plaque they handed out was for third place bobtail. When Vickie Holiday called my name to present the award, I was more than a little bit surprised. I was so proud of my truck. They way it looked made all the work I had put in well worth it.

I was invited back for next years Tennessee Truck Show (also to be held at Fitzgerald’s), and if everything goes as planned, I’ll be back.

Until next time,
Be safe,
Dick.
